800 Years of Leeds

In 1207 on November 12th Maurice de Paynel granted a charter (The Constitution of the Burgesses of Leeds), creating the borough of Leeds. This original town was built alongside the river Aire, where Leeds Bridge now stands, this area now known as Briggate, could be rented by tradesmen to encourage business to the area.
