Born in Leeds on 22nd February 1974, Chris is the youngest son of Chris The Gospel... Chris and his older brother Kieran have both left the greatest city of the north favouring life down south in the nations capital, but at least he has remained a Leeds United fan! Chris started hi radio career in local hospital radio, before getting his first taste of commercial at the age of sixteen, working as a tea boy for Carol Vorderman at Radio Aire (formerly Aire FM) A few years later Chris moved to Radio Luxembourg, presenting as Chris Holmes (mothers maiden name) until the station was shut down several months later. Returning to Yorkshire to work at the Pulse in Bradford, he then spent a few years at various stations around the country before landing a job at Capital FM in 1996 presenting a weekend late show, in which his aggressive presenting style developed into the Chris Moyles we know and love today. His ‘new’ presenting style got him in the press and had him head hunted by Kiss 100 and Radio 1. At the age of 23 Chris became Radio 1’s second youngest presenter in 1997 as the self-titled “The Saviour of Early Morning Radio” Chris has now worked at Radio 1 for 9 years moving from an early morning (4-7am) slot “The Early Bit”, to an afternoon and weekend slot and finally onto the morning slot he still works today. During his early years Chris’ seemed to offend as many people as he could, falling out with many of Radio 1’s top DJ’s as well as Mark Lamarr, but its his no-nonsense, love him or hate him approach that has made him the highest rating DJ and loved (and hated) by millions! A Leaked article published by the Sun this year reported Chris Moyles salary at £630,000 a year (no wonder Chris encourages listeners to pay their license fee!) In October 2006 Chris published his autobiography ‘The Gospel According to Chris Moyles Chris has won a number of awards and honours for his radio work: 1998 - Silver Sony Radio Award for ”DJ Of The Year” 2002 - Chris was named DJ Of The Year for 2002 by readers of The Sun 2004 - Radio Personality Of The Year at the GQ Award 2004 - Chris was named DJ Of The Year for 2004 by readers of The Sun 2004 - Sony Radio Awards – Bronze - The Daily Music Show of the Year 2005 - Personality of the Year at the Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards 2005 - Radio Personality Of The Year at the GQ Awards 2006 – Sony Radio Academy Awards – Gold - The Entertainment Award For a more detailed biography please check ChrisMoyles.net |
